A moment to pause
to reflect on the loss
of millions
i pray
for peace
yours and mine

"Langar" - found it online

"Langar" by Kulwant Budwal

In this life

fuelled by fleshly pleasures

in the pursuit ofmaterialistic comfort

I sit on the floor and eathumbly,

with rows of my people

For today I am in my Guru's house.

"The wise always takes cleansing baths. At the time of death, and at the time of birth, they are purified, when water is poured on their heads."
- Sri Guru Granth Sahib

Today's newspaper - Toronto Star shares the same story of ablution as mentioned in the SGGS. The scientific study proposes that a guilty conscience can be purged with simple water and soap. "We showed that physical cleansing alleviates the upsetting consequences of unethical behaviour and reduces threats to one's moral self-image", says the study co-authored by Chen-Bo Zhong. He has labelled the phenomenon "Macbeth Effect" based on the famous Lady Macbeth who famously scrubbed away at the "damned spot" on her hands in the wake of her role in the treacherous murder of King Duncan. Another interesting reference is made to the Biblical story of Pontius Pilate, "who dipped his hands in water after sentencing Christ to the Cross." That also solves the mystery of why every character in every film is sent to take a shower right after something unfit has been done by them or to them :P

The study involved 4 experiments, each of which pertained at attesting the psychological connection between physical and moral cleanliness. The results confirmed the soothing effect that washing can have on the conscience! So, now you know what options you have whenever you feel guilty....hehe...jks :)

Sincere thanks in advance!

Gurudwara Sahib ji

Gurudwara Sahib ji is located in Brampton. This Gurughar is relatively new, but the management seems to be in very good hands - for excellent Kirtan smagams, Katha programs and other activities are held very actively here. Here are some pictures for virtual darshan :)

This is the main hall.

Dhan Guru!

Originally uploaded by Dew Drop.

"O Nanak, if I had hundreds of thousands of stacks of paper, and if I were to read and recite and embrace love for the Lord,
and if ink were never to fail me, and if my pen were able to move like the wind
-even so, I could not estimate Your Value. How can I describe the Greatness of Your Name?"

- Sri Guru Granth Sahib, p.15

p.s.// Today is September 1, the Prakash Divas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS). SGGS is the holy book of the Sikhs - it contains "the word" and the word from the Guru is the Guru. It was first compiled and read as a holy book on Sep 1, 1604. To me and millions of other Sikhs (literal meaning - learners), this is the guiding light of our lives. I did not take this picture. But I could not possibly let the day pass without a tribute.

So Happy Birthday to Sri Guru Granth Sahib :) Wishing a blessed year for all!
